Character Rig

So, this week I was able to get pretty far with my character (Gus) and make him able to deform for certain scenarios in my storybook.  I hadn't done a character rig before, and Modo isn't supposed to be all that great for doing it, but I managed and it works pretty well.

A few things:

  • Gus is blocky - I'm not a phenomenal modeler, so I figured I'd just embrace the simplistic and geometric figure instead of trying to make a mediocre smooth model.  (think Minecraft)
  • Gus's motions are very simple.  These are mainly because I'm not great at rigging, but also because Gus will be positioned and still in most of these photos with maybe simple blinks or head turns.  The project is very heavily a storybook with simple animated pieces, as opposed to a full animation.

A lovely pose that you'll never see Gus in...
Next steps:
  • Put Gus in the current scenes
  • Complete first 5 frames of story
  • Attach website to texting functionality

progress

I've been working on different versions of the logo for icons, backgrounds on social media sites, etc. One is more vertically oriented and the other horizontal. There were some further revisions done to the logo such as bolding text and making the logo vector match more closely in style to the typeface which connected the two pieces more closely. I'm having the logo reference slightly more our work in video production with the hint of the reel as the leg of the h. So far so good.

Here is the background for the youtube page:
And also I have already begun work on the styleguide, laying out purposes, detailing of mood, and delving into typeface and color. The next step is to carry on with the styleguide and work on the initial landing page of the main website.
