Though this week was short, I spent a great deal of time working on my core ideas and the development of my goals for this semester. I was excited to get back into the studio and begin to try out some interesting fibers printing techniques such as weaves, screen printing, discharge, fiber etching, devore, and shibori dye. I have met with Sherri Smith several times about the best way for me to execute my plans and ideas; luckily, I have registered to take directions with fibers this semester as my additional studio class. This will give me the opportunity to take an even more in-depth look to unique textile design.
Another thing that occupied my time this week was the alteration of my concept and my ability to shift the imagery I have already adapted to the next level. I have decided to bring in the rich color scheme of the Detroit area to the black and white stencil work I currently have. The color scheme is as follows:
The final thing I worked on this week was my interpretation of the Elzhi music video screen shots. I have decided to incorporate them into a piece with a unique open weave. The imagery will be on the outer layer of the lamp and there will be a weave hanging beneath the polycarbonate surface. The work is extremely time consuming and will have images connected dancing along the lamp.
