Elyse Shapiro- IP Studio Update

This week, I have spent a great deal of time beginning to cut the stencil for the inner layer of imagery of my pieces. I have decided to rely less heavily on the physical imagery itself, but use my own skills to create patterns and textures that will be more expressive in print. The street, when completed, will have several destructed houses in addition to one occupied home. This helps to avoid the idea of "ruin porn" in my prints and sheds light on the optimistic future of the city's ruins.
I have also began to gather materials to construct my pieces from. I have purchased several polyester types that will work with the color transfer paper and will allow different amounts of light to shine through. As I build my prototype, I am eager to try these different materials and see how they compare with one another. I have also began to gather two different types of wicker that can potentially serve as the structure for the material. I am excited to begin working with this in combination with the fabric to resolve the best paring.
