This week, I focused on picking a concept to focus the imagery of my quilts around. I finally decided that I wanted to play with a few metaphors, such as the idea that we (humans) are puzzle pieces, because life is ultimately a journey of finding where we fit and who we fit with (or at least, that's how I feel). I am also inspired by the concept of a song by Sara Bareilles, which refers to our hearts as kaleidoscopes. I'm really drawn to this idea as well. Maybe I can find a way to integrate the two?
This week I also researched directions on how to put together a quilt, as well as applique and piecing techniques. Since I wanted to start practicing these techniques, I moved my sewing machine to its new home in my studio on Thursday. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that it was missing the needle until when I tried to use it. So since I couldn't sew, I continued to look for inspiration for my quilts. I also went to Joann's over the weekend to pick up some essential sewing tools.
Sewing machine and new quilting supplies
