Progress Oct. 25 - Nov. 3

New Idea:
After careful consideration, I have decided to no longer stuff my pillows but rather create various large scale inflatables. This will allow be to create much larger objects since I will only be filling them with air.

Main Concern:
I still want to work with fabric and various printing methods. I am worried that inflatables will only work with plastic materials. Over the weekend I plan to work with both polyester (a synthetic material with a high thread count) hopefully this material will inflate. I will also be working with plastic to figure out actual scale and begin working with this material. Hopefully I will have success with both polyester and plastic. I have looked at several different sources that Carrie and Kayla have lead me to.

Helpful Sources:
The most helpful source was the "Inflatocookbook." The book helped me understand materails necesary to make inflatable objects. It is recommended to use polyethylene that can be found at hardware stores in large sheets.

The cookbook also explains how to make various patterns of inflatables and how to create different shapes:Another concern of mine was the actual inflation process. The book explains that it is important to make the seams of the inflatable strong enough to withstand 2/5" pressure. It is also important to configure how large the object is in correlation with the fan size. Otherwise, the inflatable to pop. In order to have a successful creation the designer must create a ventilation tube much like the picture below:
The other issue was how to secure the inflatable. The book recommends using sand or water bags. For more larger structures you might need to attach weighted edges or tension net anchors:

Over the weekend I will be making various ventilation systems and seam sealers in order to create an optimal inflatable.
