My 5 Favorite Ideas

I have finalized my concept behind the project. I will gather research on my own dreams by keeping a dream journal and work side by side with the U of M's sleep clinic. The sleep clinic will provide further scientific explanations on subconscious thought while the human mind is asleep. My main concern at this point is how I would take this concept, use the media of textiles, and create a final installation or piece to put on display.

1. designing multiple pieces that connect together in CAD/illustrator then using the laser cutter to cut clear pieces of acrylic. On these acrylic pieces I would either screen print or somehow adhere fabric onto them.

2. Combing printing on paper and printing on fabric. I would provide a handout mapping my dreams and what they represent while the viewer wanders through the installation, this map will provide further information. The installation itself would be large scale panels of fabric that represent various dreams, aspects of dreaming, and their representations.

3. Large three dimensional columns created out of various textured fabrics, screen printed glass, fabric, and paper. The mirrors placed in the installation provide a endless sense of presence to the sculptures themselves.

4. Using CAD/Illustrator, designing multiple containers to place fabric in. The label on the container would describe the dream vs. the scientific reasoning/explanation.

5. creating fabric that can be displayed on rotating panels. These panels would be curved to create a circular capsule that the viewer can be immersed in.
