first short

just finished up the first of many.

this is a short called The Chef.

Project Update

The current animation can be viewed here:

Currently, it opens with a slow animation, then gets to a loop.  Once you click, it goes to the next scene.  I need to add transitions between videos and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that technically.  Flash is proving to be difficult once again.

I messed up the rendering the first time to the looping satellite doesn't quite go 360 degrees.  (This all makes much more sense if you watch the video.)

5 Images: Inspiration

All of my images are stills from videos, they are all linked if anyone wants to watch them.

Elyse Shapiro- IP Studio Update

This week, I have spent a great deal of time beginning to cut the stencil for the inner layer of imagery of my pieces. I have decided to rely less heavily on the physical imagery itself, but use my own skills to create patterns and textures that will be more expressive in print. The street, when completed, will have several destructed houses in addition to one occupied home. This helps to avoid the idea of "ruin porn" in my prints and sheds light on the optimistic future of the city's ruins.
I have also began to gather materials to construct my pieces from. I have purchased several polyester types that will work with the color transfer paper and will allow different amounts of light to shine through. As I build my prototype, I am eager to try these different materials and see how they compare with one another. I have also began to gather two different types of wicker that can potentially serve as the structure for the material. I am excited to begin working with this in combination with the fabric to resolve the best paring.

Works in Progress

Right now I am in the middle of drawing 2 of the drawings that will be part of the large scale series. The one on the left is the pen and ink line drawing style and the one on the right is charcoal -stylized realism. These are both 18"x24" I think my finals will be around 6'x7'

Progress - ideas - Working on Concepts

Over the past few weeks I've been working on quite a bit of research on the development of kitchens and eating trends during the past 50 years and reading insights into what the next 50 will hold. "The Future of Food" by Brian J. Ford has instilled some ideas and helped get some ideas out on paper. I've also been looking at Frigidair and GE's "Kitchen of Tomorrow" as well as following work put out by Electrolux.

Beyond outside research, I have been working on breaking down main components of the food experience into storage, cooking and eating. I'm currently working on the eating section and exploring the option of edible silverware. I have emailed a chemical engineering professor, Michael Solomon, who works with soft materials that fluctuate between solids and liquids. I have also emailed a biology professor, Carol Fierke in hopes to get some insight into what would need to go into edible silverware.

I have been working on 3D modeling molds to pour whatever content needed to create these. It would be 5 different molds for one silverware due to the 5 layers, 3 courses and 2 palate cleansers. However, while I have been working on these computer models, I have realized that designing the aesthetic of the silverware has been forgotten in my process and am starting to draw out physical forms.

For my storage bit, I've been looking into expandable and collapsable kitchens as well as remote access and control over your food. And for the cooking bit, I've been looking at remote cooking, via cellphone or wireless technology to a 3D printer meets oven. (as seen in sketches).
